Meet Stella – a gentle soul looking for her safe haven. Stella is an eleven month old female Pocket Pointer Cross, weighing just seven kilograms. When she first arrived, Stella was a very timid little girl – but with time, patience, and kindness she has begun to show just how much love she has to give. She adores squeaky toys, tasty treats, and playing with other dogs. Stella is happiest in the company of her canine pals and would love to share her new home with a friendly doggy companion. Mealtimes are a joy – she’s wonderfully polite, eats from her own bowl, and is very food-motivated, which makes training in safe and familiar spaces much easier. Stella is still a shy soul who can be wary of strangers, sudden noises, and especially men’s voices, but once she feels safe she blossoms into a playful and affectionate companion. BENJI is a 4 year old male podenco, currently at our holding kennels in Cordoba, Southern Spain. We rescued Benji from a very busy municipal pound in central Spain. He had been collected by the authorities from a breeding hunter with his two equally terrified siblings, and was having a terrible time, sitting and shaking at the back of the pen, only daring to venture out if food was thrown. He is much more confident since arriving at the shelter but it’s still difficult for him to trust – he still finds it difficult if somebody makes a quick movement or if he hears a loud noise, which is completely understandable given his background. An escape artist, he jumps and scales very well so his adopter will need to be experienced with this type of dog and put into place proper security measures to keep him safe. Indiana Jones is a 1-2 year old male Cross-Breed, currently at our holding kennels in Southern Spain. He was thrown over the fence at the municipal pound one night and left to his fate. Unsurprisingly, when admitted into our care, he was very nervous, and he is still a bit wary of people that he doesn’t know. However, the moment he realises that you are not going to hurt him, he’ll jump up and shower you with kisses! Indi is a medium active dog and loves to run but in moderation. He is also good with all the other dogs at the shelter and loves to play with them. Indi would be better in a home with another resident dog as he gains confidence from having other dogs around. He will need a low-activity quiet home who can give him lots of time. Indiana Jones is negative for all infectious diseases, including Brucella canis.

Marty is a 2-year-old male Cross-Breed. He is one of two siblings who are both looking for their forever homes. Marty is a smallish dog with a friendly and affectionate nature, making him a wonderful companion for the right family. Already neutered, he has also been microchipped and vaccinated, ensuring he is fully prepared for his new life in the UK. Marty has undergone all necessary tests to meet travel requirements, so he is ready to make the journey once he finds his forever home.

Zorro is a 7 year old male Shar-Pei cross Labrador Retriever. He originally lacked confidence and he hadn’t walked much but his true character is showing now he has come out of his shell. He has lived with cats, chickens, and guinea pigs and doesn’t seem to have any prey drive at all. He is reactive to other dogs, especially small energetic ones, so would need to be the only dog in the household. Zorro is fit and healthy but his eyesight is not as good as what it should be in low-light situations. He loves a good cuddle with his human friends and is a pleasantly affectionate boy. He really loves his long walks and would be best suited in an active home. Zorro could be rehomed in an adult only home. He loves his food and treats which will make any further training that much easier and more fun.

Cruz is a 2 year old, male Rottweiler cross German Shepherd who came into our care as a puppy. He is such a happy, go lucky bag of frogs and very handsome! Cruz has had to undergo some medical procedures whilst in our care, but he is fit and strong now and loves going to hydrotherapy every couple of weeks. We would advise any new owner to continue this as it is a benefit to his muscle strength. Like most dogs of his breed(s), Cruz will let you know if there is ‘stranger danger’ about but then proceed to lick them and expect cuddles! Cruz has stolen the hearts of everyone who has met him and due to his previous health complications, has sadly never been looked at. At only 2 years old, he has so much love to give and would be ideal for someone with land, and an area for off lead exercise and no need for walks. He is very strong on the lead and very inquisitive! Harry is an 11-month-old male Galgo. He was handed into Galgos del Sur in Córdoba, Spain, by a galguero who reported that Harry had suffered a leg injury a month prior. Despite the delay in treatment, Harry’s fracture to the distal tibia and calcaneus of his left hind limb has ossified and can no longer be surgically repaired. This has resulted in a permanent but painless lameness. Harry is currently based in Finsbury Park, London, and is expected to arrive in the UK on 25 January 2025. Despite his injury, he remains full of life and is incredibly sociable. He is a joyful, fuzzy brindle boy who wakes up wagging his tail, eager for human interaction—even with people he doesn’t know. His gentle and affectionate nature makes him a real sweetheart. Harry is also very good with other dogs, showing no signs of dominance. This beautiful German Shepherd Cross girl is approximately 3 years old. She was found in the street but had no microchip, so was taken to a local municipality pound where she stayed for over 3 months. Luckily, one of our STAR guardians visiting the pound saw her – it was obvious that poor Jessica needed to be found a foster home urgently; a tiny cage was no place for her, she was stressed and all alone. Unfortunately, suitable places in foster homes are very scarce in Cyprus but Jessica was offered a space at a local shelter (with better space and better conditions), this is where she is today. She now shares her space with other dogs both male and female with no issues at all. She loves human company and is always the first to great visitors. She has shown such warmth constantly and considering what she has been through (who knows what or how bad)… this just shows her character trait and willingness to trust for the love she yearns for. Our extra special girl Ella is approximately four years old and a truly wonderful cross breed at the very bottom end of medium. Ella weighs just twelve kilos and measures fourteen inches from shoulder to paw. Having been found abandoned on the streets, Ella has been in our Cyprus shelter for two months. Our shelter manager describes Ella as shy and timid but is joyous when she has a cuddle which she absolutely adores. Ella is one of the prettiest girls we have ever met. Her glorious black glossy coat is beautifully enhanced with a white flash to her neck which leads to a line along her chest. All nicely set off by four tiny white tips. With the loveliest eyes which are penetrating her appearance is exceptional and of course Ella’s are so attractive. Ella’s demeanour is the best ever. Our extra special boy Jacob is approximately four years old and a delightful cross breed at the top end of small. Jacob weighs just under ten kilos and measures eleven inches from shoulder to paw. Sadly, Jacob’s family were no longer able to keep him and he was surrendered to our Cyprus shelter three months ago. Our shelter manager describes Jacob as loving and sweet. With a calm gentility about him, Jacob has been an instant hit with the shelter staff, volunteers and visitors. He naturally draws affection from his fan club which continues to grow. Jacob’s appearance is sublime. He has a soft brown coat with some white to his chest and tummy. Add to these an adorable smile and engaging eyes, Jacob is an absolutely prime adoption candidate. Without doubt he will repay his adopters with huge premiums of love, affection and companionship. Jacob walks nicely on his lead. Varja is a 3-year-old female Galga with a caramel coat, standing 60cm tall and weighing 20.8kg. She was rescued unexpectedly when she entered a trap cage meant for another dog. When the person who had organised the rescue refused to take her, Galgos del Sur stepped in and took responsibility for her care. Varja arrived in the UK on 14 December 2024 and is currently in Essex. She is neutered and in good health, although she has tested positive for Leishmaniasis, which is stable and well-managed with daily Allopurinol and a low purine diet. She also has microphthalmia in one eye. Despite her difficult beginnings, Varja is a noble and sweet-natured dog who simply needs a quiet and safe environment where she can build trust and feel secure. Varja is calm by nature but becomes scared in the presence of humans, particularly in unfamiliar situations. Morante is a 2 year old male Galgo, born on 22/07/2022. He was rescued by Galgos Rescue Almeria and has adjusted well since arriving in the UK. Morante is a smooth, confident, and sociable dog, particularly enjoying meeting new people and dogs. His striking eyes and beautiful spotty chest make him a standout companion. Morante loves his walks and snuggle time, making him a joy to be with. While Morante has made excellent progress adapting to family life, he currently feels insecure about being left at home. His foster mum is supporting him with this, and it may help if he has another dog companion to make him feel more secure. His progress is being continually assessed and reviewed. Morante is not cat friendly, so he will need a home without cats. He is currently fostered in Newcastle, where he is thriving with the support of his foster family.

Lana is a stunning 2 year old female crossbreed who needs a new home of her own through no fault of her own. She was originally saved from being beaten on the streets in Uzbekistan as a puppy and they thought from her markings she was a Jack Russell. However she is now 30kg and was far too large for the couple who saved her (who are in their 80s) to cope with. Their daughter brought her to the UK but lives in an apartment with no outdoor space and Lana simply doesn’t cope with city centre living and no garden. She’s a wonderful girl and happily met me at her assessment, had a sniff, licked my hand and trotted beside me. We are told she can be barky with some strangers, more so men but she was great yesterday. She lives with a male dog and until six months ago lived with cats so a home with another dog or with cats would be considered. Bess is a six year old medium sized female crossbreed looking for an active home. Sadly her owner passed away and she’s not getting on with one of the other dogs she’s now living with. She is great with children 2 upwards and we would happily rehome her with children of that age. She is a no to cats/small furries and initially at least would be better suited as an only dog. When she was assessed yesterday she was a delight- happy for cuddles and fuss, quickly making friends. She’s a lively, energetic dog who certainly behaves much younger than 6! She is fine out and about walking past other dogs and would make an ideal companion for someone who is active and wants a walking buddy. She does pull a bit on the lead but we’d expect that to improve when she’s getting more exercise. She’s not keen on travelling in the car but can cope with it when necessary. Jahmeel is an absolute 2 year old male Cross-Breed love bug once he knows you – affectionate, goofy, and always up for a cuddle. He thrives on attention and would happily be the centre of your world, often snoozing in your lap or following you around just to be near. He’s playful with dogs who match his energy and has been a great companion to Miracle, showing his sweet and sociable side. But Jahmeel can get a little tense and overwhelmed, especially around excitable dogs who get too close too quickly – particularly at doorways or when he’s on lead. He needs patient handling and a calm environment where he can feel secure and understood. This charming character loves being outdoors – you’ll often find him stretched out sunbathing in the garden or off on a quiet adventure, soaking up the world around him. Elton is a fantastic 8 year old male Cross-Breed dog, who is extremely affectionate and loving. It does take some time to earn his trust, but he’s very food motivated so after a few sensible introductions he will accept you as his best friend. Once Elton knows you he is incredibly loyal and will give you the most amazing welcome! He is a playful, entertaining boy who really thrives off human company. He will sit and give you ‘paws up’ and loves nothing more than playing with toys. Walks are also another firm favourite of his. Elton is selective with other dogs, although he has a group of friends here that he lives with he can display reactivity to some, particularly if he is on a lead as he feels trapped and panics. We are working hard to help him cope with this but believe he will make the most progress in a calm environment with an experienced owner. Patrick stole every heart… except the one that matters most: yours. Patrick is a 6 year old male Long-Haired Terrier Cross. Patrick’s story begins on the street. He wasn’t bothering anyone — just lying in the sun, waiting for kind hands of neighbors who would bring him food. A peaceful soul, a gentle presence. But one day, when the dogcatchers needed to “fill the numbers,” Patrick’s freedom was stolen. They locked him in a cramped, lonely cage. Volunteers already knew him from before. Everyone adored him. Sally fostered Norwich Norfolk. Sally is a five year old Jadgterrier (pronounced Yak and no we hadn’t heard of them either) Sally is a very affectionate, by your side kind of dog. She loves to be on the sofa for a cuddle. Unfortunately she chases cats. Sally lived with an elderly owner as an only dog but sadly had to come into rescue when her owner went into a care home. She could live with another calm dog but is intimidated by big dogs and rough play simply because she’s been very sheltered. She loves children but is very excited when it comes to ball games and has inadvertently caught the children’s fingers whilst intending to get the toy so perhaps older children might be best. She is very much a terrier and would like a terrier experienced home with rules and boundaries. When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead.
