Suki – 6 month old female Miniature Dachshund
Meet Suki, a 6 month old female Miniature Dachshund currently fostered in Gloucestershire.
Suki is a beautiful young Miniature Dachshund who has just turned 6 months old and is currently being fostered in an experienced adult family home with multiple dogs.
She came into our care a few weeks ago following an incident where she snapped at and bit a very young child.
From the information provided, there were warning signs beforehand — Suki was clearly uncomfortable around that child and around visiting children in general.
Given her age, it’s clear that something has happened to cause this fear. What we can say with certainty is that Suki is not a nasty dog — she is a sensitive baby who needs to feel safe.
The dog who arrived with us was extremely wary of new people and quite barky. With time, consistency, and kindness, she has made huge progress.
She now lives happily alongside five other dogs, is relaxed with the two adult children in the home and their friends, and regularly accompanies her foster mum (a dog walker) on walks where she meets other dogs.

Suki is very food motivated (easily bribed!) and once she knows you, she is incredibly affectionate. She loves playing with other dogs and enjoys cuddles and interaction with her trusted people.
Out and about, we have noticed that children running or playing in parks make her feel worried and unsure, so this is something we are taking very seriously and managing carefully.
Despite her fears, Suki is still very young and continues to grow in confidence. For example, when she recently visited one of our
Starfish families, she was taking treats within minutes, had a waggy tail, and happily played with the other dogs — you’d never guess she had struggled with confidence at all.

Suki’s Ideal Home
Suki needs a home that will continue the excellent work her foster home has started:
Adult-only home
No children and no visiting children
Rescue dog experience essential, ideally with nervous or sensitive dogs
Good knowledge of the Dachshund breed
Another calm, friendly resident dog (or dogs)
Commitment to ongoing socialisation, gentle exposure to new situations, and confidence-building
We will not place Suki in a home with children. Knowing how uncomfortable she finds them, it would be unfair and unsafe to expect her to cope — getting this wrong would not be in her best interests.
Additional Information:
Fully vaccinated
Wormed & flea treated
Microchipped
Too young to be spayed — this will be a requirement of the adoption agreement
Will not be homed with entire dogs
Suki is a loving, playful, sensitive little dog who deserves a home that truly understands her and allows her to thrive.
