Hazel – 7 year old female Cross-Breed

Some dogs endure more than their hearts should bear. Some dogs are hurt by the very people they trust the most. And somehow, some dogs still love. Hazel is one of them.

For years, she had a home. It wasn’t much, but it was hers. She lived in a kennel outside, but she was happy with the only life she knew. The grandchildren would visit, wrap their arms around her, and in those moments, Hazel was warm—not from the cold, but from love. Until one day, she made a mistake.

She killed a hen. And for that, she was punished in a way no living being should ever be. The man she trusted took a heavy bar and struck her across the head. He crushed the area around her eyes, leaving her sight forever damaged. Then, instead of tending to her wounds, he took her to the kill shelter and left her there. As revenge.

Hazel found herself in a tiny, cold cage, surrounded by desperate cries of dogs who knew what was coming. She was no longer a family dog. No longer warm. No longer loved. She was abandoned, discarded, waiting for death. Until our rescuers saw her. Until gentle hands reached into her cage and touched her trembling fur.

Until soft voices whispered the words she had been aching to hear: “You’re safe now.” And Hazel smiled. She jumped with joy. Because despite everything, she still believed in love.

Hazel has been through more than any dog should—but she is still here, still loving, still waiting. She is incredibly affectionate with people, craving human warmth, kindness, and a home to call her own. She has limited eyesight, but she sees with her heart. She has survived abuse, abandonment, even cancer—and she is still standing.

But she needs a home where she can finally feel safe. Because of her vision, she is reactive to other dogs and needs to be the only pet. But to people, Hazel is a gentle, loving soul who has never given up on kindness.

At 7 years old (March 2025), Hazel has waited long enough. She is not meant to wait any longer. She is not meant to feel lonely again. She deserves a person who will hold her close and promise she will never be hurt again.
