Elio – 4 year old male Pointer

Hi there, my name is Elio, a 4.5 year old male pointer. I am a sweet and enthusiastic boy who has so much joy to bring to his new family.

I haven’t always had much luck in the past. I was living on the streets getting some food and water from the locals but I was in a very poor state, only skin and bones and you could barely tell the colour of my fur as I did not have any fur left.

Everyone was running away from me instead of helping me. I still remember the day I was scavenging for food and this lady came and she was not scared of my sorry look and offered me the help I needed.

That day my life changed for the better. I received the medical care I needed, my blood tests were as bad as I looked. But I could finally restore my trust in humans and had a reason to fight and get better.

Within few months I transformed to a healthy happy boy that loved nothing more than spending time with the volunteers at the sanctuary. I was there for a year and a half before I was lucky enough to fly to an amazing foster home in the UK. I am now living in St Albans.

My fosterer says I am the most chilled out boy! I love people and other dogs never faze me. I love to play chase and be chased by other dogs! I don’t bark and welcome everyone I meet with a very waggy tail.

I can be left for up to 3-4 hours, (preferably with a chew), I am completely house trained and I sleep happily all through the night without a murmur. I also travel well in the car and have been adventuring on buses and trains with no issues!

I would enjoy the company of another dog to play with although I could also be an only dog in the home if he has regular play dates and socialisation. I will need lots of mental stimulation and games as I am such a clever boy. I learn fast and love food!

What else should you know?

I was bitten by a sandfly and got Leishmania for which I received treatment and it is now dormant and under control. Leishmania is controllable and NOT life shortening if monitored correctly, I do need to take inexpensive medication to make sure that the disease stays dormant and under control.

My rescuers are very knowledgeable on this leishmania disease which is not transmittable and they tell me not to worry at all because with blood tests twice a year to monitor treatment, I will live a long and happy life!

There is just one more thing missing in my life and that is a forever home. That special place that we all dream about.

So if you can make that wish come true for me, then I would really love to hear from you.

  • I can live with other dogs or be a single dog with regular playdates
  • I can live with children over 10
  • I need a private secure garden
  • I’m fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and tested for canine brucella
