Dipper – 1 year old male Pointer Cross

Dipper is a 1 year old male Pointer Cross. He was born into homelessness after his mum was rescued as a heavily pregnant stray.

Dipper was adopted and flew to the UK in July 2022 to his new home, but sadly now Dipper has reached adolescence his family just feel they can’t give him the life he truly needs.

Heartbreakingly they have decided he will be happier in a different home, and so we are seeking a new family for this handsome hound.

Dipper is a beautiful boy with fantastic nature and heaps of personality. He loves food, cuddling, shredding soft toys, chasing the ball, sunbathing, sniffing, finding the best sticks, and being tucked in at night.

Dipper adores people, is very good with other dogs, is keen to learn new things and is fully housetrained.

The main reason for Dipper needing a new forever home is that his adopters feel they’re not home enough during the day to meet his needs and because he doesn’t enjoy being left alone for long he becomes destructive and vocal.

This is causing tension with the neighbours, so ultimately we’re looking for a family where someone is home more frequently during the day.

We also feel that Dipper would benefit from a larger garden and an active lifestyle, as he has a lot of energy and can run for miles without breaking a sweat. Dipper currently lives with another dog (a Labrador) and has no issues at all with him.

Dipper is sociable and friendly with other dogs, although can sometimes be a bit over-excitable in his play and approach.

That said, when he is familiar with another dog he recognises how to engage with them, for example, he is much more gentle with the elderly beagle in the family.

We are however looking for a dog of similar energy and playfulness to be Dipper’s new bestie. He loves initiating tug-of-war and stealing toys from his brother but never shows any signs of threatening or aggressive behaviour, so it’s just important he’s not homed with a resident dog who’s a resource guarder!

Dipper is super food motivated which works well for training. He knows to sit when asked, to get into his bed, he waits for the ‘release’ command before coming to you or eating his dinner, he walks well on the lead, and he responds well to a whistle.

Being a hound however he does sometimes suffer from selective hearing and likes to come back on his terms, so his recall needs work and this is completely normal for a dog of his breed.

Dipper is looking for an active, semi-rural home with a family who enjoys being outdoors but is also home during the day.

Dipper’s also looking for a resident dog to live with as this will improve his confidence and also help keep him busy with play, as well as provide a good role model for him. There are so many good things to be said about Dipper and in the right home he will blossom.

His family are devastated they’re not able to keep him but they just want him to thrive and be at his happiest, in a home that can offer him more and set him up for success.

Dipper hasn’t had tonnes of experience with children, however, occasionally he has been around children 6/7 years of age.

Dipper is always very gentle and enjoys following them around, will sit and take treats gently, however, he can be very bouncy and has rather large paws so can be a little full-on for little ones.

With more exposure and training we think he would be fine, so we think looking for a home with children aged 8+ is the best option unless the children have experience living with bigger, bouncy pups.

Dipper is interested in cats and will chase them out of excitement if they run, so we’re looking for a home without feline residents. Dipper is currently in Wiltshire and is ready to find his new forever home. If you’d like to meet him please get in touch.
