Koda – 6 year old male Border Collie

Please meet the brilliant boy, Koda!

Koda – 6 year old male Border Collie is a super sweet lad, but unfortunately, my home environment isn’t helping him.

He is house-trained and crate-trained.

His recall needs work around distractions, but he isn’t a dog to run off, just one to say “I’ll be right there after I’ve sniffed this tree.”

He integrated well with all my dogs and I’ve had absolutely no issues of any kind within the home, but he has shown some slight reactivity to strange dogs who react to him first out and about.

By this, I mean he barks but will carry on if you keep walking. I haven’t tested him off lead around strange dogs, due to his recall needing more work.

He is crated overnight and when I go out, as he has shown some OCD-like behaviours in response to stressors. This is likely due to his solitary confinement in kennels and pens in previous homes. The crate means he’s unable to pace and it forces him to rest.

He has not shown any issues with handling, bathing, and even putting cream on his sore pads (from the pacing prior to him coming to me).

He cannot be rehomed with cats due to his intense herding behaviours towards them, meaning he quite literally won’t eat or sleep when they’re around.

So, living with cats would be a detriment to his mental health. Currently, I am working on this issue daily, but it’s taking up a lot of my time and efforts, and I am aware that a normal family home wouldn’t provide him this structure.

He can live with other dogs no issues.

He has proven to be great with children also: sweet, tolerant, and playful. He’s been accidentally landed on and kicked by a child and just simply walked off as if it didn’t even happen.

He settles under the table at the pub, he likes playing with the hose but isn’t a fan of bodies of water. He took a while to play with toys but now is loving his life, doing zoomies and chasing balls around the garden.

He has had his jabs restarted, his kennel cough, wormer, and flea treatments within the past two weeks so he is all up to date.

A Collie-experienced home would be an advantage, but likely not necessary.
