Maxwell 3 year old male English Pointer

Maxwell is a 3 year old male English Pointer. He came into the pound two months ago, a mere shell of the dog he is today.

Maxwell had been found roaming as a stray by a municipal worker and brought to the local shelter for rehoming. He was terrified upon arrival and completely overwhelmed by his new surroundings.

It took a couple of weeks but gradually, the volunteers managed to convince him that everything was going to be okay. Now, Maxwell is doing great.

Maxwell’s much braver, more confident, and has an ever-wagging tail. Maxwell has learnt how to walk nicely on the lead and loves going out for his walks now.

Maxwell’s always beside himself with excitement to see the new people and loves being out in the yard or on a leisurely walk with them.

Maxwell’s described as a pleasure to be around and has become a firm favourite with a lot of the volunteers.

It’s as if everything that Maxwell is experiencing at the moment is brand new, and we think he probably originated from a hunter’s cage in their backyard, where he was caged and had little socialisation and nothing to enjoy in his life.

Maxwell is okay with other dogs but he’s not particularly interested in them.

Maxwell is much more people-oriented and always prefers their company than if left in the yard with the other dogs to socialise.

Right now he doesn’t understand how to play, so he gets confused by other dogs trying to instigate a game with their play bows and waggy tails.

Maxwell’s not at all aggressive towards other dogs but just a bit clueless and seems to prefer being with people instead.

We have noticed that Maxwell does show a little nervousness around Cypriot men, which further reinforces our beliefs about his history.

With other male volunteers, he’s okay, but any man in the house should take things slowly to gain Maxwell’s trust gradually and without rushing him.

Maxwell hasn’t yet had any exposure to children whilst being in the shelter, but we think based on his temperament and age he would be well suited to a family with children aged 9+.

Maxwell’s three years old now and we think that he would benefit from a home with older children who can give him space and understanding to start with, as he will be quite overwhelmed with all the changes when he’s finally adopted and is likely to regress at first.

Maxwell does trust people though, especially once he’s had a little time to get familiar with them, so we don’t think he would hesitate to befriend little humans too.

Maxwell is looking for a semi-rural home with a garden, away from busy roads and loud noises. He would love a calm household in which to adjust to a companion lifestyle and a family who can offer him the patience and understanding he will initially need to acclimate.

Pointers are the most incredible companions once settled, so we would love to see him get a chance at happiness. Maxwell is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
