Marta – 7-8 month old female Dachshund Cross

Marta is a 7-8 month old female Dachshund Cross. She is small size (around 34 cm/9 kilos). She is currently at foster at DE15, Burton-upon-Trent. She is looking for rehoming, because her owner’s circumstances have changed and their job schedule does not allow them to take proper care about MARTA and her sister.

“We are joking calling MARTA- “our crazy Marta”, because when she sees you sitting on a floor/grass she will attack you as a storm of love with not-stop kisses and joy, she will be jumping as a ball just to reach you for giving kiss. Nothing she loves more than cuddling near humans giving lots of love. She is very cheeky and funny, and loves to run and play. But need to be supervised at home, as loves to chew, and shred soft things, like cushions, soft toys, etc.

She is still in her chewy period of life, so we would recommend keeping the valuable things out of her reach. Same time we noticed that increasing her mental enrichment makes positive changes : she adores different mental enrichment games, kongs and other food stuffed toys. We think more enrichment will significantly reduce her being destructive. Also Marta, like other dachshunds, loves to dig, so the dog’s sand box with hidden treats will bring her a lot of happiness.

Although she is good with her sister, she can be not tolerant with the other resident dog in some situations. She guards food from other dogs at home, same as toys, her place and sometimes can be jealous for attention. She is not aggressive, but will clearly say the other dog “get off”. Same time she is friendly and playful with the other dogs on the walks and in the garden. I think for MARTA it will be better to be the only pet at home, so there will be no guarding conflicts. Not checked for cats (she never saw them in her little life), but most likely not.

She is housetrained. All day long she spends in a garden with doors open, at night can keep without any accidents from 10.30 pm to 7 am (needs to be fed at least 2 hours before sleep). She loves her crate, this is her safe place, which she guards from other dogs (never from humans). Same time we never locked her in a crate. Marta is not yet lead trained, as we have a very big garden , where she is free to walk all day long. But we started it and she is making slow progress. MARTA is a food oriented and very clever girl, so her training should go easy.

She is good with all humans and kids over 8 years old. I believe she can be good with younger kids, but do not recommend kids younger than 6-7 years old, as she likes to jump on humans and can be mouthy when excited and wish to play. So kids need to be prepared for this ball of energy.” She has no health issues. Full vaccination pack (rabies, DHLPP), microchipped. Not spayed (owner should be committed to spay her after the first season and not later than 6 months after adoption).
