Doris – 2 year old female Schnauzer

Doris is a 2 year old female Schnauzer being fostered in Kent in an adult home with another dog and visiting dogs. She has come into our care her previous life was as an ex-breeding dog so she has never known home and family life.

She is doing extremely well in foster and is a very bright outgoing little dog, adapting extremely well probably due to her age, she loves playing with toys and her favourite foster brother Tony.

Doris is adapting well to home life with the help of her foster family from the little dog who would freeze if there was anything new which was almost everything once she entered the home to a little dog who has got used to the sounds of a normal home although the hoover is still work in progress.

She loves playing with the young male in the house and will initial play, loves zoomies with him and rushing around the garden with him. She is quite respectful of the two older dogs.

Since arriving there has not been any signs of aggression towards the other dogs, people and the vet even though terrified at times in the beginning especially. She sleeps in the bedroom at night with her foster family. They are building up times to her being left on her own slowly but after her past she has become very bonded to her people and worries so this will need work.

Outside she improves every day but will worry with traffic around on the lead and will freeze but is much better in the fields on her lead. Again, all normal for an ex-breeding dog but will need work. Extremely sweet natured she loves cuddles with you and also with the other dogs.

She is intelligent and likes to be occupied, she has learnt sit, recall in house and garden and is now quite reliable. In a secure field it is more hit and miss and she would not be safe off lead in a public area and reliably return when called.

She likes using her brain and is physically confident and capable of jumping on and over things when out. She works for treats and therefore could do a dog job like scent work, trailing and agility given time. She is no coach potato. She travels fine in a crate in the car.

Doris has now been spayed, had her stitches removed and fully recovered ready to find her forever home now. She is fully vaccinated. Doris needs to be homed with another dog or dogs she will not be homed as an only dog.

The other dogs she is homed with should be confident, friendly and loves to play like her and also be able to give her confidence as she experiences new things.

You will need to be an experienced active dog owner who has had rescue dogs before so has an understanding of ex breeding kennel dogs and the patience/love they need.

She would not be suited to a young family home it would be too much for her we are looking for an adult home. Owners need to be aware that Doris is a grooming breed which requires regular trips to the groomers.
