Bodhi – 3 year old female Cross-Breed

Bodhi – 3 year old female Cross-Breed is a small-medium sized dog available for foster or foster with a view to adopt.

Bodhi is very smart and is very good at learning new tricks and commands. She is a real foodie and never stops getting excited about treats, which makes her very trainable.

Bodhi accepts a harness and lead and should always wear a harness as she can slip out of a collar when she gets spooked. She is best kept double-leaded until she is familiar with her new environment. Bodhi is good on the lead, can walk to heel or ahead, whatever she is told.

She never pulls and knows to stop, wait, and leave it. She also has good recall. She loves being active and being in open spaces where she can do her zoomies. Her owners also started doing basic agility training with her, having her jump over hurdles or benches, and she absolutely adores it.

Bodhi can find visitors coming to the house scary and barks when someone knocks on the door. She can be quickly persuaded to calm down with a treat scatter but needs her safe space to retreat to while visitors are in the house, as it can take her a while to relax around them. She is still more nervous around men than women.

Bodhi mostly ignores children she meets on walks but is not a fan of them touching her. It is therefore felt she would prefer a home with older, dog-savvy children (14+) as she would prefer a quieter, more predictable environment.

Bodhi can show a prey drive on walks and has been known to chase squirrels and also cats when off-leash; this has happened since a cat slapped her on a walk.

However, she has been around a friend’s cat in the home and was very calm and quiet with no issues. She may therefore be able to live with confident cats following sensible introductions.

Bodhi is toilet trained and crate trained. She sleeps well overnight and sleeps through but prefers to be in her own space in the living room. She now loves to travel in cars and is able to ride tubes and trains. Fireworks don’t scare her as much anymore, and she’s able to go outside and do her business even on Guy Fawkes’ night, as long as she can then get back to her safe space in the house where she is able to sleep through.

She has never been destructive in the home but can display destructive behaviours when experiencing separation anxiety. Bodhi suffered from severe separation anxiety when she first arrived, which caused her to be very destructive.

However, after lots of desensitisation training to all of her triggers, she can now be left alone for up to 4 hours. She prefers being in her safe space in the kennel when alone.
