Dining Out With Dogs In Southern Indiana

Image
We’re not the only ones who enjoy dining out with dogs! Today’s guest writer shares why he loved dining on pet friendly patios with his dog, Brando. And he offers some tips and a list of his favorite patios for dining with a dog in Southern Indiana.   Growing up, my grandmother and great-grandparents were cat people. But I can’t remember a time in my life that we didn’t also have at least one dog. From German Shepherds to Cocker Spaniels and Beagles, to mixed-breed mutts, we had them all. I can still visualize most all of them in my head, remembering their names. Rama was a beautiful majestic German Shepherd who was also fiercely protective of me. One time she saved me from the bite of a water moccasin. Peanut was a small, mixed-breed Beagle who wasn’t the brightest, but was very affectionate. And Fraulein was a gorgeous black German Shepherd from Germany, who was extremely intelligent. Taffy was a golden Cocker, who on one of our hikes, famously took a swim in an oil well sl

Rufus – 6 month old male Shepherd Cross

Image
Rufus is a 6 month old male Shepherd cross. Rufus and his siblings were born in the shelter when a heavily pregnant Shepherd cross was brought in after being found as a stray. Just days later she gave birth to five gorgeous puppies, Rufus, Ringo, Rider, Riley and Ruby. Unfortunately, despite the whirlwind of interest Rufus initially received, we’re still looking for the perfect home. Rufus turns heads both online and in-person because he is drop dead gorgeous, no argument. He is growing into a beautiful young dog and his handsome colouring and special two-tone eyes are really quite unique. However, as has always been the case within his litter, Rufus is shy, whilst his other siblings are much more confident and outgoing. Rufus is a typical rescue who needs some continued confidence building to help him feel reassured, and this is still a work in progress. He is amazing in the home, but on walks he struggles and gets scared quickly. Remember, he’s still only a puppy, so this has pl

Cheddar – 10 month old male Cross-Breed

Image
Cheddar is a 10 month old male Cross-Breed. Cheddar and his siblings were abandoned as tiny young babies and came to the shelter when they were only around 2.5 months old. The group adjusted to shelter life as well as they could, and one by one they were adopted into lovely homes in the UK, ready to begin their new lives. Unfortunately, just a couple of months after Cheddar was adopted, he’s sadly back to square one as his present home feels they just can’t give him the attention and focus he truly needs. Cheddar is still only a baby at 10 months old and he struggles with separation anxiety, which is something that we have noticed throughout the majority of his littermates too. This will require ongoing work, patience and understanding to help him feel safe, involved and reassured, but it absolutely can improve. Aside from his separation anxiety, Cheddar is a sociable, loving, playful, fun-loving and adventurous little guy who loves people and other dogs alike. Cheddar likes to b

Jordan – 1 year old male Miniature Pinscher Cross

Image
Jordan is a 1 year old male Miniature Pinscher Cross. Jordan and his two brothers were dumped in a pound in Cyprus after being found on the street as strays. Unfortunately, the dogs that end up in the council pounds have a really tough time and whilst one of Jordan’s brothers was adopted quickly, he and his other brother were left behind for months and months. Finally, we were able to give Jordan the opportunity to travel to a foster home in the UK and is now living in Berkshire, where he’s settling into life as a companion and learning what it’s like to finally live in a home environment. Despite living such a sheltered life up until now, Jordan is settling in so well and we’re so impressed at how adaptable he’s been despite being a naturally shy boy. Jordan is a small sized miniature pinscher cross breed and is absolutely beautiful. He has a gorgeous, sleek coat, very expressive ears, and looking past what’s on the outside Jordan is just generally a very good boy with a gentle a

Rory – 1 year old male Golden Retriever cross Spaniel

Image
Rory is a 1 year old male Golden Retriever cross Spaniel. Rory was found as a stray and dumped in a local kennels in Cyprus before he found his way to us. An adorable, energetic and excitable boy in good health, we felt certain that Rory must have come from a home but sadly no one came to claim him and so he began the journey to find a new family. Unfortunately, it’s not worked out as planned. Rory arrived in the UK a few weeks ago and sadly the resident dog has become very stressed and is not adapting well to his arrival. We’ve therefore started the process to try and find Rory a new forever home. Due to the reason for rehoming we would also be open to considering foster home offers. Rory is only a year old, so still a baby really. He is suspected to be a Golden Retriever/Spaniel mix and is an extremely friendly boy who believes everyone is his best friend, including the vet. He doesn’t show any nervous behaviour around people and will jump up excitedly to say hi when meeting som

Ollie – 18-24 month old male Cross-Breed

Image
Ollie is an estimated 18-24 month old male Cross-Breed, medium/large in size. He is some sort of GSD cross and is currently patiently waiting for his forever home at the Sanctuary in Nicosia. I can’t tell you how lovely this boy is! He’s just super, and someone will be very lucky to adopt him. Ollie was rescued in mid-June by Constantina from a remote location. A yard where dogs had been accumulating with little access to water or food. After a couple of visits delivering supplies and giving the dogs worming pills and flea treatments, she identified two dogs that she was able to rescue, and the gorgeous Ollie was one of them. Ollie is so friendly, calm, and has the sweetest nature. He is well-socialised with other dogs and lived and ate alongside cats in the yard where he lived. We believe that he could be rehomed with a cat and could definitely join a home with another resident dog. Ollie has been child-tested and passed with flying colours. He has a naturally gentle nature that

Rio – 2 year old male Shepherd Cross

Image
Rio is a 2 year old male Shepherd cross. He is currently in the UK and looking for the loving home he belongs in. Rio had an accident and as a result lost a forelimb, which meant that he was easy to catch. The dog catchers caught him and took him to the kill shelter, which meant he would be killed one way or another, being too gentle to survive in such an environment. Luckily, his nature was spotted by rescuers who immediately got him into a foster home. Now he is in the UK and looking for the loving home he belongs in. Neutered, immunised, microchipped, and flea/wormed, Rio has a current European passport. He is tested for Brucella Canis and is negative. Home check and adoption donation of £120 apply.

Tay Tay – 9 month old female Labrador Retriever

Image
Tay Tay is an amazing 9 month old black female Labrador Retriever cross. Estimated date of birth 25th September 2023. In foster in Cheshire. Good with dogs Good with cats Good with children Taylor Swift was found at two months old in an abandoned area on the outskirts of the city. The people with a junkyard took her in and that is where she spent the next few months of her life. Tay Tay is such an amazing and beautiful girl. We could not allow her to grow up there. Tay Tay is now in foster in Cheshire and there are not enough words to convey how fantastic this pup is. She is one of the most sweet tempered dogs we have ever met. She absolutely loves everyone and everything. She will give you love and cuddles in abundance. She walks well on her lead and is learning her commands. She would love a home with another dog as she loves to play but would also be happy with an energetic family who she can have a life of adventures with. Tay Tay comes with full rescue back up. A

What You Should Know About Emergency Vets (Before You Need One)

Image
Why does it seem that when pets get sick or injured, it’s always outside of the veterinarian’s normal business hours? That usually means a trip to the emergency vets. And visiting these facilities is very different than scheduling an appointment with your pet’s regular doctor. With these tips you’ll be prepared when the situation arises!   Whether you’re traveling or at home, knowing where your closest emergency vets are located is part of being prepared for whatever your pet might need. We were reminded of that recently when Myles was attacked by another dog. We were only a few blocks from our house on a lovely Saturday morning walk when a dog charged down the driveway of the home we were passing and bit Myles in the shoulder and elbow. I like to think of myself as a well-prepared dog owner, but in the shock and upset of the situation, I couldn’t think clearly. Luckily, we happened to see a friend who is also a veterinarian as we were carrying Myles home from the incident. He t
