Ava – 2 year old female Hound Cross

Ava is a 2 year old female Hound Cross
She was brought to the pound by a family who no longer wanted her. She was heavily pregnant and if they didn’t want to keep her there was no way they were going to look after her puppies. A few days after she arrived, Ava gave birth to a healthy litter of seven puppies in the shelter, of whom all have now been successfully adopted into homes in the UK. Now it’s Ava’s turn.

Unlike her pups who must have inherited their dad’s slim frame and delicate build, Ava is a big girl, around the size of a Labrador. She is incredibly loving, well meaning and friendly, and loves to make friends with anyone and everyone who visits the shelter. She’s very enthusiastic with her greetings and loves to jump up to say hello. She means absolutely no harm and everything she does is in the name of affection.

Ava was a great mother to her pups and raised them to be trusting, sociable and confident little dogs. She would play with them, but keep them in check if they were getting too boisterous. However, when the spotlight was on her she was more than happy to be fussed over and loved it when the attention was shared out among them all.

Ava is great with other dogs and has no issues with any of the other shelter residents. She can be a bit goofy and clumsy when over-excited, and we’d therefore suggest she’s adopted into a home with older children who won’t be overwhelmed by her size – she could quite easily accidentally knock over a little child without meaning to. She would also enjoy living alongside a dog of a similar size to her, rather than a very small dog who might feel intimidated by her. She likes to play and would enjoy an active companion.

Ava would be best suited to a home outside of the city with a garden. She would benefit from some basic training classes, but has such a trusting, loyal nature that it won’t take her long to pick up new things and learn where she slots into her new family. She desperately wants to have her own humans to dote on her, take her for long walks and show her a sense of belonging that she’s never had before. Ava will be ready to travel to the UK in January.
